—> Wedstrijdverslag Run ‘71 - Alcmaria Victrix (Zaterdag 23 mei 2009)

In 2009, the softball team Dames 1 starts again in the 1st league.

There have been several additions to the team and it looks like Run 71 will have a very competitive team in the 1st league.

Run´s opponents this year are the following: Alcmaria Victrix, DSS Haarlem, Olympia Haarlem, Onze Gezellen, Amsterdam Pirates, Hoofddorp Pioniers, Bandadikas Danger II.

Henry Brand, the head coach of the team, is being supported by Esther Fellinger as assistant coach and Cobus Oosting as fitness coach.

Dutch won´t be the only language that will be spoken within the team (also the reason for this article being in English), as the team has five foreigners this year. One of them is Michelle Calderon, who already played for Run the last two years. She will return to Oldenzaal in the middle of may and will support the team as short stop and outfielder. The other US girl is Sage Woodhan, a pitcher for the University of Alabama in Huntsville who is competing in the super regionals right now and is expected to be in Oldenzaal at the end of may.

The team also gets support from Italy. Jessica Abu, native of Ghana and born in Italy, played in the 2nd league of Italy last year, studies in Germany and will play for Run as a pitcher and in the outfield.

There are also two girls from Germany. One is Marion Berg, who has played for 1st league team Cologne Cardinals for most of her career and was already in touch with the club more than ten years ago. She will support the team as a short stop and outfielder. And last but not least, there is Tanja Fahron who also played for the Cardinals and will be an outfielder for Run 71 this year.

The team has two more pitchers in the circle. Richelle van Gennip, current national team player of the Netherlands, is back from studying in the U.S. and will be in Oldenzaal during the summer.

Linda Mulrain, former player of Hengelo Giants, already had her first appearance in the 1st league this year and showed that she is an important part of the pitcher rotation.

On the catcher position Run 71 got two talented, young girls – one of them is Dinet Oosting, who is a current player of the junior national team and also Marije Tenthij. They also both play 3rd base and are a big threat at bat.

Simone Davina stands out at 1st base and brings a lot of experience into the team defense.

Her younger sister Melissa Davina is the starting second baseman on the team and also excels as a catcher and power hitter.

In addition to the above mentioned foreigners who play in the outfield, there is also Kirsten Holshof who is a current junior national team player with a strong arm and a lot of experience in the outfield. Harma Oosting and Bibianne Geerts complete the other outfield positions.

Lieneke Bouwhuis is also a member of the first team, but unfortunately injured right now.

The first team also gets assistance from the second team with Maaike Helthuis, Manon Klepper and Roxanne Alink.

The team is a good mixture of young, talented girls and experienced player and aims for a position at the top of the table (top four teams).

The softball team is happy about any fan support they can get. Homegames start at 2 pm. You can find the complete schedule here: Uitslagen en standen Softbal Dames 1e klasse
